A REAL EYE OPENER!

OK, I have this problem...whenever I can't sleep my mind tends to wander. Not to nice happy things that might help me fall alseep. Nope. My mind wanders to anything under the sun that could freak me out or stress me out. This happened to me the other night...

Does everyone realize that Christmas is only 5 1/2 months away!!!!? Does that thought freak out anyone else!? Well, it freaks me out because EVERYONE, excpet Cam and Mandy, are nightmares for me to shop for. My in-laws are the worst. I never know what to get them and my husband, being the man he is, is not much help during this festive time. My parents are equally hard. Especially mom since she makes one list and gives it to both Mandy and I. My hubby is hard because eveything he wants has to be plugged into something and genereally costs upwards of $300.

My sister-in-law and I say every year that now is the time to start the shopping but what is a girl to do when she has no idea what to get people. Ever! I can't really ask people because then they would all think I am insane...it is a little to early for that.

That's really all this post is about. I just wanted to do a pulse check and see if anyone else gets the Christmas season anxiety. 'Tis the season!!!!

In that case, are you ready for my Christmas list?

You poor thing. I didn't know I was that hard to Christmas shop for. Last Christmas you gave me a Martha Stewart apron and a cookbook I'd wanted forever. Perfect. My goodness, Honey. Don't stress about this. You know me. A gift certificate to Borders ALWAYS works. Now....what do YOU want for Christmas? Good grief! It's 100 degrees outside. And we're talking Christmas? xoxoxo

But Mom, you never wear the apron I got you. :(

Have you ever heard of Tylenol PM? Anything you buy now - you wont be able to return after Christmas. Maybe 5 1/2 months out is a good time to TALK about a less stressful Christmas, a spending limit, etc. I've heard of families that have a website where they go post their wish list and the other members can go in and choose items. Us - we draw names at Thanksgiving and set a $25 limit. Except for the little ones - they all get presents. Just a few ideas. I don't think Jesus ever intended his birthday to be so much bother!

Bev, she can't help it. I created a Christmas monster. You know how I am about Christmas. And Kris, if I wore my apron all the time I might mess it up with all those food stains. I'd rather mess up my clothes - I don't care so much about them - but I love that apron!

xoxoxo

OK, I'll start wearing it......there's always bleach.

Yes, bleach is great!

Aunt Bev- Great point about not being able to return things...I didn't think about that. OK, I'll calm down and just start getting IDEAS about what I want to get people. :)

Hmm, how about gift cards? I realize you can't wrap them up in cute little packages, but that's overrated, anyway. Everybody needs at least one gift card each Christmas, so they can go out and buy the things they wanted but didn't get. And magazine subscriptions. Those are great, too. And that's about all the help I am; I never know what to get people, anyway.

Sarah- I am thinking that gift cards are the way to go for my in-laws. I NEVER know what to get them and they never go shopping for themselves. Magazine subscriptions...now that is something I truly never thought of. Have you done that before?

Krissy,

I WASN'T freaking out about Christmas until I read your blog!

One thing we do at Christmas for those "hard to buy for people" who don't need anything else anyway is give a gift in their honor to Samaritan's Purse. SP has a Christmas Catalog of things you can "buy", and they'll even send you cards to give, so you can let the people know what you gave in their honor. It's really a great idea. They even have small $$ things, so we get our daughter involved by letting her pick out to give, too. My grandmother doesn't need another knick-knack, and she loved that we gave Bible school lessons to kids in her honor.

Just a thought. Website is www.samaritanspurse.org, I think.

Krissy - gift cards are a fabulous idea for you, since you never get around to gift wrapping until about an hour before time to open them, then you stress.

By the way, you are taking ideas for Christmas, and your birthday is a week away. Hello!!! I am not giving you squat to go on until you give me some clue as to what you want on your day.

So there...

Ever heard of a store called Archiver's. It is tradtionally a scrapbooking store, but they recently came out with some wearable jewlery - that they called "Frappery." Basically it is a charm bracelet that you can put tiny index pictures of family members. We chose to do this for the Grandma's in our family for Mother's day! There are six panels for which you can choose index photo prints. We liked the sepia look on them as the bracelets look kind of antiquey! It's just a thought! Sometimes I think something meaningful is cherished! Of course since it seems your whole family is all connected -blogwise - perhaps it isn't a good idea anymore!
Blessings to all!

Rub a couple drops of lavender oil on the bottom of your feet when you go to bed (be sure to wash your hands afterwards). You'll sleep wonderfully and not have any lingering grogginess in the a.m. It's awesome! :D

I know you didn't see this one comming. Here I sit at 6 am on Saturday morning. It is my day off but I am up early. But I really got to sleep in. As I get up at 4:30 each day. Now to Christmas shopping.....
The way I shop is I go out and buy what I like. Then when it is about two days before Christmas I put everything on my bed and decide who to give what. That way I have owned what I wanted and people get something that I think they would really like. Oh, I don't open and use the items. But if it is a cookbook then I may make copies of items I would like to cook.
